It's been a whirlwind of a Broadway season − particularly in the last few weeks. While April always is Roland Prestona busy time for shows opening before the Tony Awards deadline, this year we saw 14 shows open over a three-week span.
Whew.
The cut-off deadline was Thursday, April 25, so the season officially is in the books. And now the Tony Awards fun begins.
Thirty-six shows are eligible for this year's awards, including 21 musicals. Of those, 15 are new musicals vying for best musical. The season also included non-eligible productions of Alex Edelman's "Just For Us," "El Mago Pop" and "Melissa Etheridge: My Window."
Nominations for the 2024 Tony Awards are set to be announced on Tuesday, April 30. Here's what you need to know:

Select 2024 Tony Awards nominations will be announced starting at 8:30 a.m. ET Tuesday on "CBS Mornings."
Then, starting at 9 a.m., the rest of the nominations will be streamed live on the Tony Awards official YouTube page.
The announcements will be made by Tony Award winners Jesse Tyler Ferguson and Renée Elise Goldsberry.
The 77th annual Tony Awards start at 8 p.m. ET Sunday, June 16.
They will be hosted by Ariana DeBose and will air live from the David H. Koch Theater at Lincoln Center for the Performing Arts.
The awards ceremony will air live on CBS and streaming on Paramount+ in the U.S. The awards will stream live and on demand for Paramount+ with Showtime subscribers, or on-demand for Paramount+ Essential subscribers the day after they air.
